ESSA - Code of Ethics
Our Mission
To encourage and support Emergency Social Services teams and volunteers throughout BC in the preparation and execution of their social services response plan in the event of an emergency or major disaster in their community.
Our Core Standards
We recognize and value the relationships with all ESS communities in BC and we will strive to act in ways that respect the importance of those relationships. We will adhere to a Code of Ethics that is based on the core standards of integrity, accountability, diversity, and respect.
Our Values
- We will set an example, as a nonprofit organization, for high standards of professionalism.
- We will act with personal and professional integrity seeking accuracy and timeliness in our communications.
- We will maintain accurate financial records and report our independently audited financial statements in an accurate and timely manner.
- We will comply with all laws and regulations affecting the organization.
- We will support full disclosure of all potential and actual conflicts of interest.
- We will protect the confidentiality of the information received by or generated from the organization.
- We will respect the rights of privacy of all people, including co-workers, volunteers, and the clients and employees of our partner agencies.
- We will honour the democratic process and support the final decisions of our volunteer board.
- We will treat all people respectfully in all aspects of our activities without regard to race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, political belief, religion, marital status, physical disability, mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, and age.
