The National Municipal ESS Network focuses its work on the following six areas: reception centres, personal services, clothing, food, registration and inquiry, and shelter management. This work is done in consultation and collaboration with other municipal, provincial, territorial, and federal level organizations by advising and consulting, developing awareness and links, and by coordinating planning and research.
Programs that are already in place or are currently being developed include: a National ESS Network model and Terms of Reference, monthly teleconference calls, a quarterly newsletter, a web-based ESS resource library, and ESS training opportunities.
Members of the Network consist of ESS/Directors/leads from every province and territory and is open to all ESS Directors/leads or their alternates from local authorities within Canada.
In recognition that the best way to identify and move forward common issues, concerns, and recommendations of Municipal ESS is to have a collective voice to move issues up the chain to National level. The Council of ESS Directors (CESSD) group is the body the National Municipal ESS Network shares its concerns and recommendations with and CESSD will move the issues along. It is hoped that this renewed relationship between the National ESS Network and CESSD will ensure greater support and understanding of Municipal ESS issues throughout the country.
